High Peak Station is located in a private valley at the head of the Selwyn River, near the Rakaia Gorge, Canterbury, South Island. We are one hour’s drive west of Christchurch’s newly rebuilt International Airport.
Our location in the Rakaia Gorge is an area of outstanding natural beauty, accessible with an abundance of attractions yet relatively low tourist numbers compared to other New Zealand destinations. It’s the best of both worlds – and this is exactly how we like it.
The Rakaia Gorge region is a year-round destination. During the Summer months, it offers world-class fly-fishing, New Zealand’s best salmon fishing, boating and hiking. During the autumn, hunting is what it is all about. Winter offers skiing opportunities unmatched in New Zealand, with six ski areas within an hour’s drive and New Zealand’s best heliskiing. Spring, again, is best known for fly-fishing for big brown and rainbow trout.
